" Signing up for the Language Learning Marathon"
" Signing up for the Language Learning Marathon"
I have seen so many people trying to learn a new language. But because we are an impatient species, we can only do SO MUCH. Also, we have learned, that for being able to communicate, we don't have to use the school method and learn EVERY single word there is. So we give the language a short time to prove itself to be WORTH THE PAIN. I've been binge watching some many Youtubers, who have accomplished to learn a new language in only 7 days (for instance Nathaniel Drew, who you definitely should check out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fxAaBZNduQs). Or at least, they make it seem like that. And of course, as curious as I am, I want to try it too. Let's take TWO whole paragraphs, to go threw my thought process of choosing the next VICTIM language. If you'd rather skip that, OF YOU GO to my Master plan.
Over the 20 years of my existence, I have somewhat learned 4 languages. With Polish being my mother tongue, to Dutch being on a decent level. I don't know exactly why, but I have the theory, that 5 languages is the most my brain can handle. Call me crazy, but it ain't easy for me. Yeah, you polyglots, who somehow can memorize 20!
Following my theory, I have to choose wisely. Yesterday I googled the most useful languages to learn and stumbled upon this diagram
Knowing already English and German, it became obvious, which one I have to choose. It all came down to Spanish, French or Russian. I took a few lessons in high school to govorit' po-russki, I gave Spanish two months of my time and I love the sound of the French language. So I chose Italian.
Here's what I think. This challenge is to learn to communicate on a basic level in 7 days. If I start to hate Italian, I'll just take an imaginary rubber and rubber it away from my memory. If there comes time to learn Spanish (which I think we all agree is the most useful one from my list), so I can dance Jota Aragonesa and drink Sangrias like a local, I. Will be. Ready. With the basics of Italian I should be good to go. Also Italians speak slow, there are no made up letters like é and è. Easy peasy...
Steps to learn Italian in 7 days ( And basically any other language. Choose for yourself. I won't judge. Promise.)
Italians are hot.
2. Learn the 1000 most common words.
142,8572... plus repeat. EVERY DAY.
3. Learn to conjugate verbs in present tense.
25 should be enough.
4. Get familiar with the sound of Italian.
Youtube here I come!
5. Read in italian.
Children stories.
6. Write in italian.
On the beginning of the post I'll write a short note in Italian.
7. Listen to italian music.
Bella ciao, bella ciao, bella ciao, ciao, ciao!
8. Try not the get fed up with the Italians. It's not their fault. It's yours.
Freedom to swap. One day reading, one day listening...
Every evening I am going to reflect on my progress and see if that method works for me. So... Stick around for that.
Edit* Jesus, since I have written it here, I feel committed. Honestly, I could just copy paste some italian sentences and you would believe it anyways. But trust me, I don't have that much fantasy to write about frustration and pain. Don't worrey, guys! I won't let you down. Ill give it my 99.9 % I need 0.01% to focus on eating cake.
Cheers! Oh. Yeah, CIAO! From now on.
